A 61-year-old man died after he was pinned down by a tree which was being cut down in Pilar on Monday morning.
The fatality, identified as Graciano Anub of Barangay Inagbuhan, Pilar was declared dead on the spot by Municipal Health Office Dr. Maria Tago, said Sergeant Joel Tado of the Pilar Police Station.
Romulo Daguplo, 38, who was paid to cut down trees in Anub’s lot was taken into police custody following the incident.
Daguplo did not notice that Anub was in the vicinity when he cut one tree which inadvertently fell on the victim.
According to Tado, Daguplo was released on the same day he was arrested as charges were not filed against him.
Daguplo and the victim’s family arrived at an amicable settlement.
“Nagkasinabot sila na di na mo file og kaso kay mo tabang man kuno ni sila sa tanang gasto,” said Tado.
Tado said that they were still not able to identify the tree which landed on the victim, although locals call it “mansa.” (CR)
