The Bohol District Jail (BDJ) warden assures that illegal drugs will have no way into the jail facility as tight inspection protocol is in place.

BDJ warden, Jail Chief Inspector Richard Tulabing, said he has ordered tight security measures at the facility to make sure illegal drugs will be intercepted right at the doorsteps.

This is also complemented by surprise inspections on the prison cells conducted at least twice a day.

Indeed, in the recent rounds, not a single pack of shabu had been confiscated in greyhound or surprise inspections at the prison cells.

Tulabing said there are still contrabands confiscated in some inspection rounds, such as tobacco, cigarettes and improvised weapons, but no drugs.

Jail authorities are also closely monitoring personalities who have tendencies to sneak drugs into the facility.

In fact, at around 2 p.m. on July 9, a jail searcher foiled the plan of the wife of an inmate facing drug charges to sneak shabu into the BDJ.

Jail searcher, Jail Officer (JO)-2 Asterio Quiño Jr. identified the 41-year-old woman as one Raysa Panis.

Quiño found the two big packs of shabu, estimated to weigh 50 grams and with a street value of P340,000, placed inside an empty box of soap.

The packs of shabu, still in rock form, were wrapped in yellow paper and covered by masking tape.

The jail searcher found them when he frisked Panis when she came to visit her husband, Joseph Panis, also 41 years old and is detained for charges related to violations of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Raysa is a resident of Barangay Cogon in Inabanga and earns a living by selling soap.

She reasoned out that a man just asked her to bring the boxes of soap to her husband at the BDJ and she never had any idea that what was inside the package was shabu, even though she was familiar with the weight of soap in a box.

She refused to identify the man although she said she knew him and the man would usually ask her to deliver boxes of soap but she did not expect that inside them were shabu.

She added that she felt bad as the man duped her into doing an illegal activity she had no idea about.

Quiño, for his part, said that it had been a while already that they observed Raysa every time she would visit her husband at the jail until they had confirmed that she had been bringing in illegal drugs.

She had also been in the drugs watchlist of BDJ and PDEA,  Quiño added.

Charges of violations of RA 9165 is already prepared against her.
