Aspiring voters who are qualified and want to take part in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in 2020 can now have themselves registered as voters.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday, August 1, 2019, started to accept applications of aspiring registrants in Bohol and the rest of the nation.
According to provincial election supervisor Atty. Elisio Labaria, Comelec offices in the province will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for aspiring registrants from Monday to Saturday, including holidays, until September 30, 2019.
The Comelec has also set up off-site registration sites in select villages across the province.
Labaria said that applicants may file for a transfer of registration or correction in the entries in their registration records also during the two-month registration period.
Aspiring registrants and other applicants need to present a valid ID.
Among those considered as valid IDs are the following:
- Employee’s identification card, with the signature of the employer or authorized representative;
- Postal ID
- PWD (Persons with Disability) Discount ID
- Student’s ID or library card, signed by the school authority
- Senior Citizen’s ID
- Driver’s license
- NBI clearance
- Passport
- SSS/GSIS ID
- Integrated Bar of the Philippine (IBP) ID
- License issued by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC)
The Comelec said those who would be at least 15, but not over 30 years old on May 11, 2020 may have themselves registered as voters for the SK polls.
The barangay and SK elections is scheduled on May 11, 2020 but could be moved to 2022 after President Rodrigo Duterte asked the 18th Congress for the postponement “to rectify the truncated terms” of village officials.
The postponement would also provide barangay officials “with the ample time to finish their programs and projects,” Duterte said.
Duterte by signing Republic Act 10952 had earlier postponed the previous barangay and SK elections from October 2017 to May 2018, cutting elected officials’ term short. (rt)
