The seaboards of the Visayas including in Bohol remained under gale warning amid unfavorable weather conditions brought by the southwest monsoon which is being enhanced by Tropical Storm Hanna, based on the latest update of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Waves may reach as high as 4.5 meters in Bohol and other Central Visayas provinces including Cebu, Siquijor and Negros Oriental, said PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio in a press briefing at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

“Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seabords of Luzon and Visayas due to potentially rough sea condition,” Aurelio said.

Cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms will be experienced in Visayas and various areas in Luzon.

According to Aurelio, Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to intensify into a typhoon within 24 hours, but is still unlikely to make landfall.

The weather disturbance is projected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday.

In an earlier interview on Tuesday, Seaman 2nd Class Jun Buten of Philippine Coast Guard Tagbilaran said sea trips of vessels with gross tonnage below 250 are barred from departing due to the gale warning.

Most fastcrafts however including those of Ocean Jet are over 250 gross tons. It would be up to their captains and management whether or not they will set sail.

The Island Biri, a catamaran fastcraft, meanwhile was barred from departing on Tuesday as it is classified as below 250 gross tons.
