Joint operatives from various law enforcement agencies seized suspected shabu, cash, cellphones, improvised deadly weapons and drug-using paraphernalia during a dawn raid at the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) in Tagbilaran City on Sunday.

Operatives of the Bohol Provincial Police Office led by BPPO director Col. Jonathan Cabal, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and National Bureau of Investigation stormed the detention facility at past 5 a.m. and confiscated a total of P200,000 cash and shabu worth P136,000 from multiple jail cells of the overcrowded detention facility.

All of the seized drugs were allegedly found in the possession of Oliver Cereula Manubag, 32, a native of Cebu City. He is held for drug cases and is set to be slapped with additional charges following the raid.

The seized peso bills of assorted valuation were found in various jail cells but the largest chunk of the cash at P119,200 was found in Cell 23. However, authorities have yet to identify who owned the money.

Operatives also seized three mobile phones, one of which was found hidden inside a bible with its pages carved out, and at least 10 improvised deadly weapons.

Meanwhile, authorities are set to investigate several jail guards of the facility after their names were found listed in a notebook believed to be a ledger for drug transactions.

According to Cabal, who assumed the BPPO’s directorship earlier this month, the operation was carried out as part of the police’s intensified drive against narcotics trade.

Earlier this week, the BPPO conducted a three-day SEMPO (Synchronized Enhanced Managing of Police Operations) which resulted in the arrest of 37 drug suspects and the confiscation of shabu worth over P600,000.

Based on gathered police reports, the operations were conducted in various areas including Corella, Sevilla, Tubigon, Loboc, Tagbilaran City, Maribojoc, Dimiao, Antequera, Loay, Lila, Clarin and Baclayon. (AD)
