A man was killed while his passenger was injured after his motorcycle slammed straight into a parked backhoe in Carmen in the wee hours of Sunday.
The fatality identified as Ariel Carin, 32, of Barangay Poblacion, Carmen was still rushed to the Congressman Simeon Toribio Memorial Hospital in the town but he later succumbed to his injuries, said Corporal Rustico Bitasolo, Jr., of the Carmen Police Station.
Carin’s passenger, Ricky Niones, 28, meanwhile was still being treated for his injuries.
According to Bitasolo, Carin at past 12 a.m. on Sunday tried to overtake another motorcycle but did not notice the backhoe which was parked at the opposite lane of the road.
Bitasolo said that the victim may have not seen the backhoe as there was no early warning device planted near the heavy equipment owned by Llda Construction.
Both victims were not wearing helmets during the accident.
According to Bitasolo, a charge for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide could be filed against Llda Construction, depending on the decision of Carin’s family to whether or not agree to an out-of-court settlement. (A. Doydora)
