A 70-year-old man who died of drowning was found lifeless in a small water-impounding facility in Talibon early on Monday.
According to Corporal Roy Garcia of the Talibon Police Station, initial investigation indicated that the fatality, Lucio Babatid, of Barangay San Jose, fell some several meters into a pool of water in the said village.
His remains were discovered by a man who authorities only identified as “Wewe” in the water-impounding facility at around 6 a.m.
Garcia said that the victim was last seen leaving from a drinking session with his friends as he headed home alone on the night before he was found dead.
Authorities believed that he lost balance due to drunkenness and fell hitting his head at the side of the water-impounding facility and causing him to lose consciousness and drown.
Garcia said that they found Babatid with a wound in his head which may have been sustained following the fall.
There were no indications of foul play behind Babatid’s death, he added. (AD)
