A man driving a motorcycle was killed while two of his passengers were injured after they were accidentally rammed by a van in Baclayon town in the wee hours of Sunday.
The fatality, identified as Remjie Tirol, of Bogo, Cebu was still rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon, several hours after the accident, said Senior Staff Sgt. Neil Sumaoy of the Baclayon Police Station.
Both his passengers, Carlito Vison, 33, and James Gamartsa, 30, both natives of Negros Occidental, meanwhile were also taken to a hospital but were already in stable condition.
According to Sumaoy, Tirol’s motorcycle was rear-ended by a van driven by one Frederick Cue, 42, of Baclayon town along a national road in Barangay Santa Cruz. Both vehicles were headed towards Tagbilaran City.
Sumaoy, based on Cue’s statement, said that Tirol suddenly drove past the van and swerved back to their lane.
Cue claimed that he was caught off guard causing his van to ram the motorcycle from behind.
Sumaoy said that Cue was not taken into police custody but has been noted to be just at his residence in Baclayon. Cue has not been out of his house and may be suffering from trauma due to the incident, he added.
However, Sumaoy noted that Cue may face charges considering that the accident was fatal and led to the injury of two others.
Authorities are still waiting for the decision of the victim’s family to whether file a case against Cue or arrange an amicable settlement. (AD)
