The older brother of Alan Caberte, who was earlier allegedly caught in possession of one of the largest single-bust drug hauls this year at P10 million worth of shabu, was arrested by police in Candijay.

Edwin Caberte, 50, was collared along with Jay Romulo, 37, through a buy-bust operation on Wednesday morning in Barangay La Union in Candijay, a little over a month after the arrest of Alan in Tagbilaran City.

Senior Master Sgt. Leonard Efondo of the Candijay Police Station said that Caberte and Romulo were caught in possession of four small packets of suspected shabu.

According to Efondo, they are still conducting follow-up investigations to determine if Edwin was connected with the operations of Alan.

“Di pa mi ka-sure kay taga Tagbilaran si [Alan] kani siya [Edwin] dugay na sa Tambungan,” Efondo said.

Both Edwin and Romulo worked as van-for-hire drivers and lived in Barangay Tambongan in Candijay.

Efondo noted that Romulo and Edwin may have used their vans to transport drugs from Tagbilaran City or other towns.

According to Efondo, Edwin and brother Alan are natives of Tagbilaran City but the former moved years ago to Candijay after he married a native of the town.

Alan, deemed a Level 2 target in the police’s province-wide drug watch list, was arrested by intelligence officers of the Bohol Provincial Police Office at his residence in Barangay Cogon, Tagbilaran City on October 6.

Authorities had noted that Alan was linked with inmates at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City based on text messages found in his mobile phone.
