The Philippines struck gold once again after its four-strong team including Boholano Anfernee Lopena clinched the top spot in the 4x100m mixed relay event of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at New Clark City, Tarlac.
The quartet comprised of Lopena, Eric Cray, Eloiza Luzon, and Kristina Knott clocked 41.67 seconds, bagging the country’s fourth gold of the day.
Luzon and Lopena started for the Philippines but Knott and Cray, running the third and fourth legs of the relay, finished strong overcoming what appeared to have been an insurmountable lead.
Meanwhile, Thailand bagged silver (41.99s) while Malaysia settled for 3rd (42.40s).
Prior to his relay team’s gold-medal finish, Tagbilaran native Lopena placed fifth in the men’s century dash.
