Telecommunications giant Globe Telecom Inc. is eyeing the construction of 46 more cell sites and the improvement of its existing facilities in Bohol to boost connectivity in the province.

Top executives of the Ayala-led firm including its chief commercial officer Albert de Larrazabal met with Governor Arthur Yap and Provincial Board Member Alder Damalerio, chair of the PB’s committee on Information and Communications Technology, at the Capitol last week to lay down their plans for the province.

Larrazabal reported to the officials that the 46 cell sites which will be erected in strategic locations will improve their coverage in the entire province based on their assessment.

Globe currently has 108 cell sites across the island.

According to Damalerio, who has been pushing for improved connectivity in the province, Globe also plans to upgrade their existing cell sites by making these LTE-capable.

The move will provide “faster mobile data experience,” he said.

Yap on the other hand asked for digital solutions that would cater to the agriculture sector.

“What can really be done with innovation and connectivity today? Is there innovation solution for farms today?” Yap said during the dialogue.

Yap is a former agriculture secretary while Bohol remains to be an agricultural province and is deemed as the “Rice Bowl” of Central Visayas.

Globe in turn suggested the development of an app that would connect farmers directly to consumers. (RT)
