Bohol records 1st COVID-19 death

The first coronavirus disease (COVID) 2019 death has been recorded in Bohol.

In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital said that it was able to “identify and isolate” a COVID-19 patient who died in the facility.

According to the GCGMH, the patient passed away on the first day of admission at the hospital.

“The patient was admitted and cared for inb our Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) Unit and unfortunately expired on the first day of admission,” it said.

The hospital assured that they are following strict protocols and keeping its patients and employees, saying that it has long prepared for handling COVID-19 cases.

“The public can be assured that the GCGMH has committed to be the dedicated COVID-19 Designated Healthcare Facility for the Province of Bohol. As such, we have always been prepared to handle and contain such cases,” the hospital said.

The GCGMH’s Hospital Surveillance Unit and Infection Prevention & Control Unit has been coordinating with local and regional health authorities in handling the case and other efforts related to it.
