Relampagos wins LP landslide victory

Re-electionistRene Lopez Relampagoswill earn his third term as First District Representative of the Province of Bohol following his landslide victory in the recent national and local polls.

The Liberal Party congressional bet amassed 144,284 votes as of May 13, 8:45pm, leading by a margin of more than 100,000 votes over congressional aspirants Dr. JoahnaCabalit-Initay of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and Engr. CrisantoPhilipps Alturas of PDP-Laban who garnered 27,769 and 9,378 of the votes, respectively.

This is the first time that Relampagos will be serving a public office for three consecutive terms.  Prior to being elected as district representative, Relampagos had served as Provincial Board Member, Vice Governor, and Governor of the Province.

Relampagos made a successful comeback in the political scene in 2010 after he won the first district congressional seat. Despite being a neophyte in the House of Representatives, Relampagos managed to be elected as chairman of the House Committee on Human Rights during the 15th Congress. He currently holds the chairmanship of the House Committee on Tourism in the 16th Congress.

In the previous and present congress, Relampagos has championed many causes as well and has spurred development in the province by lobbying projects in the different government agencies and has crafted many laws that are beneficial to both Bohol and the country.

Relampagos has expressed gratefulness to his constituents in Bohol for entrusting him with another term that will be his last in the House of Representatives, following his overwhelming victory in the recent elections.

“I am deeply moved by the expression of confidence and trust from my constituents ever since I got elected to the position in 2010. I am also immensely grateful to my family, friends, and loyal supporters who generously contributed their time and effort during the election season. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!” the solon said.

Relampagos sees his reelection as a great opportunity for him to continue his legislative work that will greatly benefit the people of Bohol and the country as a whole.

“I am looking forward to the next three years, working hard to make Bohol more progressive. I truly appreciate the confidence you have bestowed upon me all these years and I will do the best I can for the interest of my fellow Boholanos.”

Relampagos also congratulated all local government officials who have won the elections and thanked the poll volunteers who helped secure clean, honest and orderly elections. He said he is always ready to support the new leaders of our nation along the path towards inclusive growth, peace and societal development.

The lawmaker’s legislative agenda for the Seventeenth Congress will seek to further tourism and economic developments in the country, improve health and other public service, measures on anti-discrimination and equal opportunities, human rights protection and promotion as well as give voice to the vulnerable members of society, among others.
