The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will now be updated with the latest vehicular accidents involving public utility vehicles (PUV) and will never remain clueless as previously claimed by the regulatory body for public land transportation services.

This was the assurance of 1st district Board Member Abeleon Damalerio after an agreement was forged between the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for the timely submission of road accident reports covering PUV’s.

The Committee on Public Utilities and Related Franchises chaired by 3rd district Board Member Elpidio Jala met with Police Superintendent Lorenzo Batuan, Operations Division Head of the BPPO and Erwin Patalinghug, LTO Tagbilaran Registrar to thresh out the mechanics for the timely submission of accident reports.

The BPPO, as agreed will submit accident reports thru electronic mail (e-mail) while the LTO will also send in their own report to the LTFRB.

Accident reports in the municipalities will be relayed to the Police Provincial Command by the municipal police stations.

Damalerio pushed for the timely submission of accident reports to the LTFRB as basis for investigation and imposition of fines and penalties.

Alarmed by the rising number of bus accidents involving Southern Star Bus Company, the biggest bus company operating in Bohol with more than 100 buses, Damalerio moved for the speedy resolution of cases involving PUV’s. (Chito M. Visarra with reports from Rey Tutas)
