City traffic to be rerouted to make way for parking spots

A new traffic scheme for the city is now being considered to make room for parking spaces along streets in Tagbilaran City after the Sangguniang Panglungsod approved sterner measures against illegal parking yesterday, June 17, 2016.

According to Councilor Bebiano Inting who sponsored the recently approved towing and clamping ordinance, the City Traffic Management Board will study the rerouting of city traffic which would include the implementation of one-way streets.

Some areas in said one-way streets will become designated parking spaces should the plan push through.

Officials are considering the measure to resolve the city’s problem of limited parking spaces even in central Tagbilaran City where most government offices and businesses are located, Inting said.

Most streets in the city have no legal parking spaces as these are not wide enough to accommodate parked vehicles, he added.

Establishments in the city are usually found along the streets but only a few businesses in Tagbilaran City have parking spaces because of the narrow roads.

The city government is readying the said plan as it approved yesterday the towing and clamping ordinance which would likely result to a high incidence count of clamped and impounded vehicles if the traffic problem is not resolved.

There are already one-way streets in Tagbilaran that allow parking but these are insufficient given the city’s growing number of vehicles. (with reports from Allen Doydora)
