With Tropical Storm Butchoy (international name: Nepartak) forecasted to enter the country on Tuesday, Governor Edgar Chatto ordered the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMO) to gear up for the incoming typhoon.
Anthony Damalerio, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Officer told DYRD Balita that communities at high risk of floods and landslides are on “emergency preparednesss mode”.
Last Saturday, parts of Abatan River that traverses the town of Balilihan overflowed its banks due to torrential rains that lasted for several hours causing flooding in Barangay Sagasa and Cantomimbo of Balilihan.
In Garcia Hernandez, the banks of Ughuban Spring also overflowed its banks flooding Barangay West Canayaon near the Philippine Mining Sinter Corporation (PMSC).
A landslide cut off the vehicular traffic and hampered movement in Barangay Baang in Catigbian which is still undergoing clearing operations.
Meanwhile, a three day “incident command training” for MDRRMO’s will kick off the observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month on July 11-13, 2016 with the theme “Pagpangandam ug Pagtubag sa Katalagman, Gimbuhaton sa matag usa”. (Chito M. Visarra and Rey Tutas)
