A malfunctioning brake is said to be the cause of an almost deadly crash of a passenger jeepney which almost fell off the cliff along V.P. Inting Street in Barangay Mansasa, Tagbilaran City around noontime Monday.
A passenger jeepney driven by one Jeramer Calimpusan, 37, was descending down along the accident prone Dampas-Mansasa Road approaching the intersection of V.P. Inting Street, when it reportedly lost function of its brakes prompting the driver to ram the vehicle into the roadside in the hopes of stopping its descent but eventually barreled into the cliffside barrier across the intersection.
If not for the coconut and caimito trees on the cliffside where the jeepney got caught, it would have fell all the way down the cliff.
Calimpusan said he and his passengers were coming from Dao Terminal and were on the way to Sevilla. But when they reached the descent of Dampas-Mansasa Road, he could not get the brakes to hold.
All 11 passengers were safe as most of them only suffered minor injuries, including Calimpusan.
Emergency responders of Tarsier 117 and the Tagbilaran City Fire Station brought 4 of the passengers to a hospital for treatment. (KB)
