Barangay, SK polls registration starts July 15; Comelec sets rules

The registration for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls in October this year will be on July 15 until July 30, 2016 according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Provincial Election Supervisor Supervisor Atty. Elesio Labaria told DYRD Balita that the registration will be held from Monday to Sunday during the said period from 8am to 5pm.

The poll body will be working fulltime and the public can also register even on holidays, Labaria said.

According to Comelec Resolution 10148, only those aged 15 to 30 on the day of the elections are allowed to vote in the SK polls.

Those will vote in the SK elections must also be a resident of the barangay of registration for at least six months.

Registrants for the barangay elections must be at least 18 years old on the poll date and a resident of the Philippines for at least one year.

Voters are not allowed to transfer their registration from one barangay to another, Labaria said.

Meanwhile, Labaria noted that the provincial Comelec continues to prepare for the barangay and SK elections which will be held in three months.

According to previous reports, the Comelec allocated P695 million for poll operations. (with reports from Rey Tutas)
