Boxing aficionados in Bohol expressed disappointment at how the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout clinched, losing sense of the five-year waiting.

Local boxing analyst, Glenn Lumantao, said the there had been too much media hype only to end up in a boring fight.

During the five years that the match had been in negotiation table, Lumantao had been expected Mayweather to be running away from Pacquiao—exactly how the defending champion turned out on fight night.

However, as the schedule of the fight neared, Lumantao changed foresight and expected a tough fight.

Even Pacquiao failed to show his usual stunt and gave in to the pace of Mayweather and had never pressured Mayweather, according to Lumantao.

“We have to accept the fact the corner of Manny Pacquiao failed to bring the game plan they crafted for 10 weeks inside the gym to the actual ring. That was not the usual Manny fight. He simply could not pull the trigger, while Floyd Mayweather brought on stage his usual game—run (avoid being in trouble), intimidate (show to the audience that he is invincible), hug (to stop the opponent when he feels the pressure). He won by outsmarting Pacquiao in releasing his spears from a distance. Using his reach advantage, he landed perfect shots with his jabs,” Lumantao elaborated.

Joining the survey conducted by top-rated DYRD Inyong Alagad, majority of the Bohol reactors believed Pacquiao had been sabotaged.

This coincided with the statement of Pacquiao later that he had been sabotaged, citing the leak about his shoulder injury to which he attributed Mayweather’s hint where to hit him hard.

Majority of the reactors also believed Pacquiao was the rightful winner and that the People’s Champ has nothing to prove further.

The social media also flooded with criticisms how Mayweather literally kept on running and showing a scared look less deserving the title belt.

In his clinching position, Lumantao explained that it might have appeared Pacquiao showed the courage of a fighter, but the rules in boxing as a sport allows running and hugging which Mayweather had been doing.

“It’s up to the referee how long he would allow it or when to give the boxer a warning. Kenny Bayless did a good job,” according to Lumantao.

The local boxing analyst further explained that in professional boxing, three judges score the fight in a 10-9 point system wherein 10 goes for the winner of the round and 9 goes to the loser.

“The winner is determined by whose game plan and fighting style is dictating the tempo of the round. A knock-down would make it 10-8. Two knock-downs is a round would make it 10-7. It is unlike amateur boxing that is scored by the majority of the five judges in every hit the boxer makes,” according to Lumantao.

He said the judges, therefore, “awarded more rounds for Mayweather because he controlled the fight over Pacquiao.
