Free Wi-Fi will be available within the facilities of the Philippine Ports Authority in Tagbilaran City before the month ends if plans for the setup remain uninterrupted.
Officials of the PPA are already moving to have the wireless internet system installed following President Rodrigo Duterte’s vow to put up Wi-Fi hotspots in seaport, airport and bus terminals, among other public places.
According to PPA Manager Engr. James Gantalao, the system will reach download speeds of 30 Mbps (megabits per second) or 3.75 MBps (megabytes per second).
When the Wi-Fi system is installed, the free internet can automatically be accessed by passengers inside the terminal and nearby areas through their smartphones and other electronic gadgets.
Seaports in various provinces have also started to offer free Wi-Fi to the public as national officials of the PPA are now urging local offices to set up internet hotspots in passenger terminals, said Gantalao. (Allen Doydora)
