Vatican appointed Msgr. Alberto “Abet” Uy as the new bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran to succeed Bishop Leonardo Medroso who, by age, has retired as bishop. The formal announcement was made 6 o’clock last night in Rome.

Bishop-elect Uy is presently the vicar general of the Diocese of Talibon (Bohol).

Fr. Algerio Pana, chancellor of the Diocese of Tagbilaran went on air over dyRD, a member station of the Catholic Media Netrwork (CMN) last night to.announce the appointment of Msgr Uy. He said the ordination of the new bishop will be be in Talibon. The date of installation at the St Joseph Cathedral will be decided on a later date. Bishop elect Uy is the 7th bishop of.the diocese . He is the third Boholano bishop to assume as head of the Diocese of Tagbilaran. The diocese which is celebrating its 75th year had two other Boholano bishops, the late bishop Manuel Mascarinas and the late bishop Felix Zafra.

Bishop elect uy is.known as a prime mover of the campaign against vote buying during.elections. The new bishop who hails from Ubay will turn 50 yrs.old on Oct. 18.
