Installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all business establishments will be strictly enforced throughout Tagbilaran City next year.
The Tagbilaran government through the Sannguniang Panlungsod has a pending ordinance mandating the use of CCTVs and is expected to be approved within the year.
Local lawmakers were prompted to draft the bill following a string of theft cases including burglaries and the conduct of scams across Tagbilaran City in the previous months.
According to Tabilaran City Mayor John Gesnell Yap, the initiative would be crucial in the crackdown on criminality particularly in identifying suspects by reviewing CCTV footage.

The CCTV would also serve as deterrent for criminals, while constant monitoring of live feed from the device would also allow prompt action as a crime is still being carried out, he added.
